Dear Standby Reservist:

This local board has been informed by the armed force of which you are a
member that you are now in the Standby Reserve. Congress, in the Reserve Forces
Act of 1955, has charged the local boards of the Selective Service System with
the responsibility of determining the availability of members of the Standby
Reserve for active duty in time of war or national emergency declared by Congress

As a Standby Reservist you cannot be called to duty unless Congress author-
izes it. However, since time will be a vital factor in a national emergency,
it is imperative that the availability or nonavailability of all Standby
Reservists be determined in advance. This is an important part of the far-
reaching Reserve Program adopted by Congress for the defense of our country.

Part 1690 of the Selective Service Regulations, issued pursuant to an
Executive Order of the President, requires that each member of the Standby
Reserve must be placed in one of the following categories:

Reservist available for Order to Active Duty (in time of

Be
war or national emergency declared by Congress).

II-R: Reservist Not Available for Order to Active Duty because
of Civilian Occupation.

III-R: Reservist Not Available for Order to Active Duty by reason
of Extreme Hardship to Dependents.

W-R: Reservist Not Available for Order to Active Duty who is not
eligible for another category.

(NOTE: The local board will determine your category on

the basis of (1) the information contained in your Standby

Reserve Questionnaire (2) such other written information

or in your registrants records if you are also a Selective
Service Registrant, and (3) current instructions issued by
the Director of Selective Service.)

In order that your availability and category may be properly determined,
at is requested that you fill out Carefully and In Detail the enclosed Standby
Reserve Questionnaire (SSS Form No. 80) and return it Promptly to this local
board in the enclosed self-addressed envelope which requires no postage. If
you have a Selective Service Number please insert it in Item 2 on the first
page of the Questionnaire (unless it already appears there). Insert your date
of birth in Item 3. Fill out the rest of the Questionnaire as completely as
possible. The information you supply will be treated as confidential and will
be used by the Selective Service System to determine your availability.

After your availability has been determined you will receive a Standby
Reserve Notice of Availability (SSS Form No. 86) advising you whether you have
been determined to be available or not available. If you disagree with the
determination you have the right to appeal in accordance with the instructions
printed on your Standby Reserve Notice of Availability.

Please read carefully all of the information given on the first page of
your Questionnaire under the heading "Notice to Standby Reservist". If you
